Christmas Greetings from The Rise Foundation

NEWSLETTER

ISSUE NO 1 DECEMBER 2019

Christmas message from Senator Frances Black

Christmas should be a magical time of the year for children, but with recent figures showing that currently in Ireland, an estimated 271,000 children under 15 years of age are living with parents who are regular risky drinkers, and 1 in 11 children being negatively affected by a parent’s drinking, the reality for many will be very different. Many will wake up to chaos on Christmas morning, with no presents wrapped due to Mammy and/or Daddy having drunk too much on Christmas Eve. Christmas Day will be a struggle through a bad-tempered hangover haze, with all the family suffering the fallout.

My work with the Rise Foundation has clearly demonstrated the devastating impact that alcohol abuse has on families. It is the whole family who suffer the consequences and the effects are detrimental to family life. The problem is magnified over the festive period and alcohol misuse will sadly ruin Christmas for thousands of families. The devastation will sadly continue long after the decorations have come down. The RISE Foundation offers a compassionate recovery experience for family members dealing with these situations.

None of this would be possible without the ongoing support of our loyal supporters, As 2019 draws to a close I want to thank you all and encourage you to continue supporting us in this important work. Your generosity is offering a beacon of hope to many families.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the many others who contribute to Rise Foundation’s success. Our Board, chaired by Lassie Mulligan, our office staff, our team of volunteers and our wonderful team of committed therapists.

I wish you all a happy and peaceful Christmas and look forward to working with you all again in 2020.

Camino 2018

In October 2018 a group of 16 supporters walked 125km in aid of the Rise Foundation. Starting in Baiona they walked the last leg of the Portuguese Camino finishing in Santiago de Compostela.

This was an experience few will forget- full of good humour, camaraderie and laughter.

It was most certainly a “Buen Camino”!

Thank you to all those who fundraised and took part.

Our next Camino will be in October 2020 and if you would like to be part of the next team further details will be on the website in January.

Lord Mayor’s Ball 2018

The Rise Foundation was extremely fortunate to be chosen as one of the 3 beneficiaries of the Lord Mayor’s Ball in February 2018. This wonderful event hosted by the Lord Mayor, Ard Mheara Micheal MacDonncha, in the majestic Mansion House in Dublin, raised a wonderful €25,000 for Rise.

A sincere thank you to the Lord Mayor and his wonderful team who organised a superb event.
